Lasting Impressions
What I remember or liked most about the trip.
1. The weather was much like Oregon's. That, along with the fair-skinned, blue eyed, blonde haired people, I felt right at home.
2. The fact that coffee is not only a morning tradition, but also served at lunch. Lunch is much larger than what I am used too, as well is breakfast. I would get to dinner sometimes and be hungry for only a single slice of pizza since I ate so much during the day. Back to lunch though, the norm was a meal then desert, then after you have a bit of digesting time, more desert! Can't have mid-day coffee without cake! Oh and potatoes. Lots of potatoes! They're served with dinner in a bowl like you would serve bread.
3. The bathrooms. Odd toilet paper holders and rarely is there free soap/shampoo in the hotels. Antibacterial soap is nowhere to be found, some natives didn't even know what it was when I asked where to find it. The towels and washcloths all had little loops sewn on the top of them, to let them hang but without taking up all the space they would if laid out across a whole towel bar.
4. The history. Europe is simply so much older than America. The architecture, art, and culture. There is so much behind everything you go to or see and so much to learn.
5. Before any sort of cheese or lettuce or meat is put on a sandwich, butter is to be smeared onto the bread. Butter, butter, butter.
6. What really stuck in my mind the most was the beautiful & seemingly endless farmland. We were lucky to rent a car and had the pleasure of being able to drive through the country.
