Kalmar

Today had to have been "be kind to tourists" day, or something of the sort. Walking around Kalmar we got a bit backwards and turned around after coming back from the castle, and when asking a fireman for directions he just drove us over to the area we needed to be. While walking around there trying to find our restaurant we, once again, got lost and were approached by two girls who took notice in our confusion and pointed us in the way of a wonderful little cafe in the floor above a bookstore. The one girl was American. Her dad worked for a Swedish company in America but got transferred to Sweden two years ago. The other was from England and has been living in Sweden for five years. They both spoke either language and were very helpful.

We came after hours so Emily and I jumped the gate to see more of the castle. The main entrances was bolted shut so we really didn't see much more.

King Carl!

The ceilings were so beautifully ornate.

The king would hide little worms in the eggs when he had dinner guests. The worms were attracted to water and would start rolling around on the table to get closer to the water when they sensed it. Mexican Swedish jumping beans eggs!

The artist used different kinds of wood to create these scenes that you could, seemingly, walk right into. Earl 3D art.

Stolen from the Danish for a Swedish queen. It was believed that spirits entered/exited through noses so before they placed it in the bedroom they cut off the noses of all the figures in the carvings so the Danish spirits wouldn't come into the castle.

Everyone rides bikes! There must have been at least 300 in by the bus stop.
