Long Day in Göteborg
Another Carl Milles piece (Poseidon), Goteborg.
Today was our day trip to Goteborg. We originally planned on going straight to the Röhsska Museet but it was closed so instead visited Trägårdsföreningen. The sun was still subsiding somewhere behind the rain clouds but luckily the greenhouses were open. The palmhusets were filled with plants from five continents in various climatic zones. Along with the flora were quilted hangings.
Lily pad bowls with spikes around the outside layer, 2 foot diameter.
Cliche flower pic, but such a pretty little rose!
Quilt pictures for GR:
While exploring the town's shopping district I ended up finding a few shirts I liked. We have only been here for about a week & a half but I have already picked up on some of the language. At the first store, I completed the transaction without speaking a single word of English.
On our way back to Halmstad we stopped by the Tjolöholms Slott, "an eccentric English Tudor-style mansion with Art Nouveau interiors. The mansion was built for a Scottish merchant" (completed 1904). "It contained state-of-the-art features such as vacuum cleaners, showers and hot-air heating." The view from the back cannot simply be captured in a photograph. Driving away from the slott I saw a field of cows and had to stop to say hi. Silly, I know. At first they ran away but they followed our car down the road. This time they wandered right up to the fence and I was able to pet them. We fed them tree branches and took plenty of pictures. (Quotes from our guidebook.)
The view from the back patio.
"Emily, get up there so I can take your picture."
"Wait, is this a tomb?"
My favorite one with the curly hair!
Reflections, dinner table.
